Training on theater of the oppressed performance techniques

The 4-days training foreseen by the SPGs project took place in Cluj-Napoca (Romania) with the aim to enable 13 youth workers to develop a forum-theatre performance and master the relationship between the actors and their audience, in a democratic way.
The practice of this method has a strong social and psychological orientation and it is used to work on conflicts through the means of theatre. It includes a large part of improvisation since the actors on stage must be reactive to the audience’s suggestions to modify the short scenes which are presented.
The forum-theatre technique facilitates the interaction between youth workers and young people and among youngsters and their peers, it helps them to better understand each other in order to create a dynamic and meaningful relationship.
Once back home, the trained youth workers will work on the theater techniques with SPGs participants in each local context. The preparation of forum-theatre events will allow the youngsters to organise their thoughts, to speak in a logical and clear way, to accept the ideas and transformations brought by others (people who will intervene during the performances forcing them to modify the situation onstage), opening their minds and shifting their thoughts towards new directions.
From exercises to the realisation of the public performances, young people will develop acting skills and adopt acting tools to perform in front of an audience and deliver a message. Through art they will raise awareness among the audience about 2030 Agenda, SDGs and the importance of being active European citizen, with dialogues that spring reflections of passers-by. Stay tuned!
